cup of coffee and beansTwo new “umbrella” reviews of 218 coffee clinical trials, including all countries and settings, found that people who regularly drank coffee were less likely to die from all causes, including heart disease, at an average of three cups per day, compared to those who didn’t drink coffee. An umbrella review summarizes data from previous analyses.

Among the findings, those who drank coffee were also less likely to develop prostate, endometrial, skin and liver cancers, gallstones, gout, and type 2 diabetes. Discussing the results, doctors said, excluding pregnancy and women prone to bone fracture, “coffee drinking appears safe within the usual patterns of consumption.”
