It’s that time of year again.  Time for the kids to head back to school!  Some of you are excited for routines, some of you are crying tears of disbelief that your baby is heading off into the world, while others of you are crying tears of joy and looking forward to that first day of freedom, I mean, school.

Whatever your feelings about a new school year, we all want the same things for our kids.  We want them to be healthy, focused, and successful in their endeavors.  Some ways we can do this are by giving their little bodies all the support they need through good nutrition, exercise, and supplements.

When selecting convenient foods be sure to read the ingredient list and choose organic, non-GMO options with no artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors.  Alternatively, you can provide a little extra variety in your lunch packing by filling small reusable containers yourself with nuts, fruit, yogurt, cut veggies and cubed cheese.  Fill enough containers for a few days at the same time and store them in the refrigerator for easy lunch packing on those crazy mornings when nothing seems to go as planned.

Keeping our kids physically active can be a challenge with crazy schedules.  I firmly believe that kids need the opportunity to play creatively and run around in the fresh air.  An hour a day of outside play at the park, in the yard, riding bikes, walking the family dog, or playing tag with friends will promote focus and a healthy lifestyle for your kids.  On those cold, wet days when playing outside just isn’t an option try a kid’s yoga video or crank up the music and have a dance party!

Heading back to school also means heading back to a classroom where everyone shares supplies, resources, and germs.  While a good diet and exercise are great ways to keep our kids’ bodies strong; supplements can add an extra boost to their immune systems.  Consider adding a daily probiotic and children’s multi-vitamin to your school supply shopping list to fill in any gaps in your kids’ diet and promote a strong immune system.

Here’s to a healthy, fun, and productive school year!
